What is a Latex Mattress?
Latex is the milky white liquid that is extracted from the sap of the rubber tree which is biologically known as “Hevea Brasiliensis”. Although natural latex or rubber is a native of South America but because of South American leaf blight and other natural predators it is not main source of natural rubber across the globe now. Asia was the main source of natural rubber, accounting for about 90% of output in 2021 as per the report of Statista.
India is currently the 3rd largest producer and fourth-largest consumer of rubber in the world. Although the initial efforts to cultivate rubber on a commercial basis were started as early as 1873 at the Calcutta Botanical Garden, commercial cultivation was first introduced to India by British colonists. Latex Tapping
Latex Tapping or Rubber Tapping is the process of extracting liquid latex from the rubber tree. A small incision is made in the bark of the rubber tree during latex tapping, and a container is put below to collect the milky white sap that pours out. This incision must be one-quarter inch (6.4 mm) deep and is made with a hooked knife. Post making the incision, the bark of the latex tree is peeled back.
Each night a rubber tapper removes a thin layer of bark along a downward half spiral on the tree trunk. This whole process is executed in skilled and careful manner to ensure the tapping panel yields liquid latex up to 5-6 hrs. After this, the opposite side is tapped, allowing the other side to heal over. The spiral allows the latex to run down to a collecting cup. The work is done at night or in the early morning before the day’s temperature rises, so the latex will drip longer before coagulating and sealing the cut.

Liquid Latex Transportation to The Processing Unit
The collected liquid latex is sent to our latex processing plant the same day it is collected. This allows us to keep the liquid fresh and avoid coagulation. In order to keep the liquid latex from spoiling, it must be transported and stored at a cold temperature.
Rubber latex during transportation and storage should be protected from both extremes of temperature. Low temperatures (0°C or less) may cause damage due to freezing, but prolonged exposure to high temperatures may also be harmful.
Latex processing is the process of transforming raw latex sap derived from rubber plants into useable latex products. First, the liquid latex is filtered to eliminate any contaminants that may have come into contact with the latex during collection, such as bark, insects, or debris. After filtering, the liquid is dumped into enormous tanks and allowed to settle. During this time, any leftover contaminants will drop to the tank’s bottom, and the purified liquid latex may be decanted and transported to a separate tank.
This coagulated latex is then squeezed to eliminate excess water, and the hardened latex sheets that result are hung out to dry.
Drum shipment should not be left standing in the open air in tropical or sub-tropical climates. Apart from low temperatures causing rubber latex shipped in drums to be damaged, latex shipped in bulk may suffer similar damage during discharge if adequate measures are not taken against the effect of low temperatures. If brought into port at the time of year when low temperatures prevail, difficulty, loss and extra expense in discharge may arise owing to coagulation.
